Man Assaults Neighbour and Infant with Axe in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, Belapur: A shocking case of violence unfolded in Sector 8, Belapur, where a 50-year-old man, Raju Satta, brutally assaulted his neighbour, Anjali Usman Shaikh (37), and her infant son with an axe and an iron rod. The incident occurred on Thursday evening following a heated argument over a trivial matter.

According to the police, the argument began after Anjali's two-year-old son defecated on a common pathway. Satta reprimanded the child, prompting Anjali to defend her son and question the man’s interference. Moments later, Satta returned with weapons and launched a vicious attack on Anjali, who was holding her younger son, Affnan Shaikh.

In an attempt to shield her child, Anjali ran outside her home but was relentlessly pursued and assaulted by Satta. Her husband, Usman Shaikh, tried to intervene but was also attacked. Neighbours witnessed the attack and alerted the police.

The infant sustained severe head injuries and underwent major surgery at DY Patil Hospital in Nerul. "The child has multiple stitches from head to nose, and the medical expenses are overwhelming," said Usman.

Police officials suspect the accused is hiding in the Belapur hill area. "Efforts are underway to apprehend him soon," said Senior Inspector Bhaskar Kokare of NRI Coastal Police Station.

An FIR has been registered against Satta under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of attempted murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

This incident highlights the devastating consequences of uncontrolled aggression in domestic disputes.
