Married Man Accuses Woman of Extortion in Mumbai: Demands Rs 1 Crore to Withdraw Rape Case

Mumbai, India: A woman in her mid-30s has been booked by the Charkop police for allegedly extorting Rs 1 crore from a married man, threatening to keep him in jail by withdrawing a rape case only upon payment.
The complainant, a sales manager at a private firm, claimed the woman filed a rape and cheating case against him when he refused her demand to marry, despite his 2013 marriage. He was arrested on November 10, 2023, and spent a month in jail before securing bail. The alleged victim later approached his sister, seeking money for a ‘No Objection’ to expedite his release.
Their relationship, consensual for over six years, reportedly turned sour in 2022 when the woman began pressuring him to leave his wife and marry her. When he refused, she filed charges against him. After his release from jail, she demanded Rs 1 crore, threatening him with further legal and financial ruin.
The complainant revealed that the woman, with the help of a private bank employee, accessed his savings and investments. She also linked her phone numbers to his internet accounts, compromising his banking transactions and personal information.
Police investigations unveiled threatening messages sent by her, including one stating, “Give money or die in jail.”
The victim lodged a private case in the Borivali court, which recently instructed the Charkop police to register a criminal case against the woman and her accomplices under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act.
The accused, along with her brother, a friend, and the bank employee, is now under police scrutiny.
