MBVV Police Nab 25-Year-Old SUV Thief, Recover ₹59 Lakh in Stolen Vehicles from Bihar

Mira-Bhayandar: In a well-coordinated operation, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) unit of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police arrested a 25-year-old thief who had been involved in stealing high-end Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and compact sedans. The arrested individual, Abhishek Arvind Singh, was traced to his native village of Majharia in Buxar district, Bihar, after an intensive investigation led by local authorities.
Clever Modus Operandi: Thief Used Employment as a Gateway
Singh's technique for stealing vehicles was remarkably clever. He would gain employment at business establishments or residences, where he would have access to spare keys of high-end vehicles. Singh would then wait for an opportunity to steal the cars and drive them directly to his village in Bhayandar. These stolen vehicles were then kept hidden and used for personal purposes, with his family unaware of their illegal origins.
One of the stolen vehicles was a Mahindra Thar SUV worth ₹15 lakh, taken from Bhayandar on March 5. Following the theft, MBVV police analyzed CCTV footage and mapped potential escape routes, eventually identifying Singh as the prime suspect. Using this information and a network of informants, the police were able to track Singh down to Bihar, where a joint operation was launched.
Vehicles Worth ₹59 Lakh Recovered in Bihar
Singh’s arrest was made possible through coordination between MBVV’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Avinash Ambure, and local police in Bihar. During the operation, the authorities recovered five stolen vehicles: a Mahindra Thar, a Toyota Fortuner, a Toyota Yaris, a Honda City, and a Honda Amaze, all collectively valued at ₹59 lakh.
What is particularly interesting is that Singh never attempted to sell the stolen cars; instead, he flaunted them in his village, creating the illusion of wealth and success among locals. His family members were reportedly unaware that the cars were stolen.
Investigation and Legal Action Continue
An official case has been registered against Singh under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita at the Bhayandar police station. Singh has been remanded to police custody, and further investigations are underway to explore the full extent of his criminal activities, as well as the possibility of any accomplices involved.
The successful arrest and vehicle recovery showcase the MBVV police’s effective use of technology and coordination in tackling organized crime, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining law and order across the region.
