Mira-Bhayandar: MBMC Cracks Down on Builders for Violating Anti-Air Pollution Guidelines

Mira-Bhayander,Mumbai: The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has taken a stern stand against builders flouting anti-air pollution norms, issuing stop work orders to five developers for continued violations at their construction sites. The action comes after the developers ignored multiple show-cause notices and failed to comply with environmental safety guidelines.

Construction sites in the revenue villages of Ghodbunder, Navghar, Goddev, and Bhayandar were targeted in the crackdown. The developers affected include Ajay Bahadur Yadav, Hemendra Boasmiya (Rashmi Properties), Umraosingh Ostwal (Ostwal Builders), PNK Developers, and Span Creators.

"We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against air pollution," stated a senior officer from the MBMC’s town planning (TP) wing. "Despite being repeatedly served with notices, these developers continued to breach the rules, leading us to halt work at their sites as per the law. Our efforts to curb pollution will continue."

The action is part of a broader strategy to ensure compliance with stringent anti-air pollution guidelines. Construction sites are mandated to use covered vehicles for transporting materials, install sensor-based air quality monitoring devices, and set up CCTV cameras to monitor dust pollution. Additionally, builders must implement GPS tracking for vehicles, provide tire-washing facilities at exit points, and create designated, enclosed areas for activities like grinding, cutting, and drilling with a proper water fogging system in place.

However, many developers have shown blatant disregard for these conditions, causing ongoing environmental concerns in the region. MBMC officials emphasized that future violations would not be tolerated and assured continued monitoring and enforcement.

The decision to issue stop work orders underscores the MBMC’s commitment to maintaining air quality and ensuring that builders adhere to the mandated safety measures to protect the environment and public health.
