Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation to Allot Vacant Flats to Staff on Rental Basis

Mira Bhayandar:February 13, 2025: In a move aimed at supporting its personnel, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has announced that it will allot flats to its staffers on a rental basis. The flats, which are currently vacant, are part of properties under the corporation's ownership and are located in housing complexes across Mira Road and Rai Village (Bhayandar).

An official notification issued by City Engineer Deepak Khambit on Tuesday outlined that seven flats, ranging from 286 to 585 square feet, would be made available to MBMC staffers. These flats are spread across three complexes, providing a much-needed solution to the housing requirements of municipal employees.

Aspiring staffers interested in renting the flats must submit an application to the Estate Management Department. The flats will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Revenue generated from the rental charges will be utilized for the maintenance and upkeep of the properties, officials stated.

The flats are part of a larger initiative under the Rental Housing Scheme (RHS) of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is aligned with the state government's affordable housing policy. Many of the flats are from a larger pool of properties being developed under the MMRDA's affordable housing project, with several already handed over to the MBMC for various housing and resettlement schemes.

The flats that are being made available to MBMC staff have been procured from the MMRDA as part of this initiative. While a large number of flats are still under construction in prominent housing complexes in Mira Road and Kashimira, the MBMC has already received over 1,153 flats, several of which have been allocated for rehabilitation schemes, with the remaining units lying vacant.

This decision is expected to provide much-needed housing to the MBMC personnel while simultaneously generating revenue for the upkeep of these properties.
