Missile Scare at Punjab University: Students Run for Cover; May 9–11 Exams Postponed

Chandigarh May 9: Amid escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, a video from Panjab University in Chandigarh has surfaced, showing students running for cover after sounds resembling missile activity were heard on campus late Thursday night. The footage captured red beams lighting up the night sky and panicked voices shouting “Run! Run!” as students fled in fear.

In response to the growing tension and concerns over student safety, Panjab University has officially postponed the university examinations scheduled for May 9, 10, and 11. The announcement was made by the Controller of Examinations, who confirmed that revised dates for the affected papers will be announced shortly.

University authorities have advised students to follow official communication channels, including the university website, for regular updates and instructions. Security measures on campus have also been intensified.

The missile alert came as several districts across Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh initiated full blackouts from Thursday night, following advisories from the Indian Air Force and Army. The precautionary blackouts affected Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, and Chandigarh. Nearby Mohali and Panchkula (in Haryana) also observed enforced blackouts.

In Gurdaspur, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh ordered a strict blackout from 9 PM to 5 AM, effective immediately and continuing until further notice.

With regional security on high alert, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Educational institutions and public facilities have been advised to take all necessary precautions to ensure safety and preparedness.
