Mother of Bengaluru Engineer Atul Subhash Approaches Supreme Court for Custody of Grandson

New Delhi - The mother of Atul Subhash, the Bengaluru-based engineer who tragically died by suicide on December 9, has moved the Supreme Court in a bid to secure custody of her four-year-old grandson. Subhash had left behind video recordings and written notes, alleging harassment and false accusations from his wife and in-laws, which contributed to his decision to take his life.

Anju Modi, Subhash's mother, has filed a habeas corpus petition seeking the custody of her grandson, whose whereabouts remain unclear. The petition claims that Subhash's estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family members, who are currently in police custody, have not revealed the child's location. Nikita reportedly told the police that her son had been enrolled in a boarding school in Faridabad and was in the custody of her uncle, Sushil Singhania. However, Sushil has denied any knowledge of the child's whereabouts, further complicating the situation.

The case, which has sparked significant legal and emotional turmoil, has also seen multiple arrests. On December 16, Nikita Singhania, along with her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania, were arrested by Karnataka Police, who cited evidence from Subhash's suicide note and video to charge the three with abetment of suicide. They are currently in judicial custody.

Anju Modi's petition argues that the Singhania family has obstructed efforts to locate the child, furthering the distress for Subhash’s grieving family. Pawan Kumar, Subhash’s father, has also publicly demanded custody of his grandson, emphasizing concerns about the child's safety.

The case has escalated tensions within the family, with Subhash's relatives expressing deep concerns over the child’s well-being. "We have not seen him in recent photographs, and his safety is a matter of grave concern for us," said Bikas Kumar, Subhash’s brother. "We want to know his whereabouts through the media and demand his custody as soon as possible."The battle for custody and the ongoing investigation into Subhash's tragic death continue to unfold, with both families locked in a bitter legal and emotional struggle.
