Mumbai Crime Branch Unveils Shocking Network Behind Illegal Bangladeshi Immigration

Mumbai, India: A recent crackdown by Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch has exposed an intricate network aiding illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to enter and settle in India. Over the weekend, 20 individuals were apprehended across Mumbai, including Ghatkopar, Mira Road, and Malwani. Investigators unearthed a shocking discovery – agents are offering “rate cards” with detailed prices for illegal entry routes and fake documents.

Entry Routes and Costs

  • Water Routes: Priced at ₹2,000–₹4,000 but deemed highly dangerous due to wildlife threats such as crocodiles and Bengal tigers.

  • Mountainous Routes: Cost ₹7,000–₹8,000 per person, with moderate risks.

  • Flat Land Routes: The safest but most expensive option, costing ₹12,000–₹15,000.

The investigation revealed collusion between agents and border authorities, including members of the Bangladesh Rifles, to facilitate crossings unnoticed by Indian forces.

Fake IDs and Jobs for a Price

Once inside India, illegal immigrants pay ₹2,000 to obtain fake Aadhaar cards through agents. These documents allow them to settle and even participate in elections. Agents also provide employment opportunities, charging commissions for placements.

Key Arrests and Locations

The crackdown led to the arrest of:

  • Mohammad Idris Sheikh (Charni Road), who possessed the rate card.

  • 13 immigrants, including minors, from Nalasopara by Ghatkopar Police.

  • Liton Gulam Sheikh (Mira Road), living in India for five years.

  • Chandni and Tasleema Mondal (Ghatkopar).

Officials Vow to Dismantle the Network

A senior officer emphasized the ongoing efforts to eliminate the network facilitating these operations. “This is just the beginning. Our investigations aim to dismantle the system aiding illegal immigration,” they stated.
