Mumbai Man Gets 20 Years for Abuse of Minor Boy

Mumbai: A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a special court in Mumbai after being convicted of abusing a 13-year-old boy over a period of several years. The abuse came to light in 2020 when the victim's mother discovered alarming messages on her son's phone, revealing that the accused had invited the boy to his home when no one else was around.

Special Judge Priya B. Bankar noted the psychological impact the incident would have on the victim, emphasizing that such abuse leaves lasting effects on a child's ability to lead a normal life. "This will undoubtedly leave an enduring scar on the victim’s mind," said the judge during sentencing.

In addition to the sentence, the accused was fined Rs 20,000, with the full amount to be provided as compensation to the victim. The accused has been in jail since October 2020, with time already served accounted for in the sentencing.

The case was supported by the testimonies of the victim and his mother, with no substantial evidence provided by the defense to dispute the charges. The prosecution successfully established the details of the crime, resulting in a conviction.
