Mumbai Police Bust Child Trafficking Network; Nine People Arrested

Matunga, Mumbai: Mumbai police have uncovered a child trafficking network operating in Mumbai, Gujarat, and Karnataka, arresting nine people, including eight women. They rescued a four-month-old girl who had been sold for ₹5 lakh to a couple in Karwar, Karnataka.

The arrested people, including wedding planners, caregivers, and hospital staff, come from Mumbai (Dadar, Sewri), Vadodara, and Karwar. The list includes Sulochana Kamble, Mira Yadav, Yogesh Bhoir, Roshni Ghosh, Sandhya Rajput, Madina Chavan, Tainaaz Chauhan, Baby Moinuddin Tamboli, and the baby’s mother, Manisha Yadav.

The case started when the baby’s grandmother reported the sale of the child. Manisha Yadav admitted to selling her daughter for ₹1 lakh, with help from Chavan and Chauhan. A police team led by DCP Ragasudha R made arrests in Thane, Vadodara, and Karwar. Authorities believe the gang has trafficked more children, mostly from poor families.

India has strict laws against human trafficking. The Constitution, the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, and the Indian Penal Code make human trafficking a crime.

This operation shows the need for more action to stop child trafficking and protect vulnerable families. The investigation continues to find out more about the trafficking network.
