A total of 744 individuals have been arrested in connection with 634 drug-related cases registered between January and June.

According to official statistics, ganja and mephedrone (MD) topped the list of the most seized substances, highlighting a growing concern over the widespread availability and use of these narcotics in the city.

Breakdown of Major Seizures

  • Ganja: 865 kg seized in 402 cases; 416 people arrested. Estimated value: ₹31.59 crore

  • Mephedrone (MD): 37.23 kg seized in 136 cases; 187 arrested. Estimated value: ₹68.55 crore

Despite the small quantity, cocaine remains one of the most high-value drugs due to its premium street price.

Apart from drug trafficking and possession cases, the police have also registered 3,484 cases of drug consumption, resulting in 2,968 arrests. This highlights the scale of drug usage across various pockets of the city.

A senior police official stated that the force is aggressively pursuing drug traffickers not just through traditional methods, but also via cyber surveillance.“We not only rely on our informant network to get leads but also keep a close watch on the darknet, where a significant chunk of drug transactions takes place. Our objective is to break the supply chain and syndicates operating within Mumbai. At the same time, we are also focusing on awareness programs targeting the youth to educate them on the health risks and legal consequences of drug use,” the official said.

Mumbai Police have intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking through increased surveillance, raids, community outreach programs, and inter-agency coordination. The first half of 2025 marks one of the most significant anti-drug operations in recent years, and officials vow to continue their crackdown through the rest of the year.
