Mumbai Rains: Wall Collapse in Bhandup West Injures Three, Including Two Children

Mumbai, June 24, 2025 : Heavy overnight rains in Mumbai led to a partial wall collapse at a residential structure in Bhandup West early Tuesday morning, leaving three people injured, including two young children. The incident occurred near a nullah in Punjabi Chawl, Hanuman Nagar area, and was reported to authorities around 7:01 AM by the S Ward Control Room.
According to officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the wall—likely compromised due to continuous rain and its proximity to the drain—gave way, causing panic among local residents. Immediate rescue and relief operations were launched by teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), local police, BMC's disaster management unit, and ward-level staff.
Three residents were injured and quickly transported to M.T. Agarwal Hospital in Mulund. Medical personnel identified the injured as:
-
Vanita Vishwas Sawant (65)
-
Yogesh Mashir Pal (5)
-
Manisha Mashir Pal (9)
All three victims were treated on an outpatient basis and are reportedly in stable condition.
The BMC confirmed that no fatalities were reported in the incident. The collapse was confined to a single wall, and surrounding structures are currently under inspection for signs of weakness or potential danger, especially as monsoon rains intensify across the city."We are assessing the integrity of nearby homes and will take necessary precautions to avoid any further mishaps," a senior BMC official stated. "Safety checks and repairs in the area will be prioritized."
Mumbai witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall on Monday, which continued through the night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain today, along with overcast skies. City temperatures are expected to hover between 27°C and 29°C.
The civic administration has advised residents, particularly those in low-lying and nullah-adjacent areas, to remain alert and report any signs of structural damage.
