Second Batch of 443 Indians Evacuated from War-Hit Israel Under Operation Sindhu

New Delhi/Tel Aviv, June 24, 2025: The Government of India’s large-scale evacuation mission, Operation Sindhu, continued in full swing as the second batch of 443 Indian nationals was successfully evacuated from war-affected Israel on Monday, June 23, through coordinated efforts via Jordan and Egypt. The latest evacuation brings the total number of Indians brought out of the region to 603 in two days.

As part of the mission, two groups comprising 175 and 268 individuals were moved out through Israel’s borders with Jordan and Egypt respectively. These evacuees are now en route to India via specially arranged flights facilitated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in partnership with the Indian embassies in Amman and Cairo.

The first batch of 160 Indian nationals had left for Jordan on Sunday, June 22, and boarded their flight to India on Monday by 2:15 PM local time, according to passengers onboard.

The ongoing evacuation comes amid escalating hostilities in the region, with Indian nationals in Israel facing frequent missile and drone attacks. Cities such as Haifa, Ramat Gan, Beersheba, and Rehovot’s Weizmann Institute of Science have reported direct hits. Many residents have been forced to take shelter in fortified safe rooms and bunkers, prompting swift action from the Indian government.

Recognising the urgency, the Embassy of India in Tel Aviv set up a 24x7 Control Room last week to manage the evacuation effort. The control room has been instrumental in issuing advisories, handling thousands of calls and emails, verifying registrations, and prioritising evacuation based on medical needs, children, women, and students.

Sources confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been personally monitoring the situation and receiving real-time updates. "The operation reflects India’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad," an official statement noted.

Operation Sindhu joins a series of major rescue missions previously undertaken by India, including Operation Ganga (Ukraine), Operation Devi Shakti (Afghanistan), Operation Kaveri (Sudan), and Operation Ajay (Israel, 2023). These missions showcase India’s increasing global role as a credible first responder in international crises.

The Indian missions in Israel, Jordan, and Egypt have worked in tandem to ensure a safe and seamless transit, with local authorities in all three countries extending vital cooperation. At present, there are an estimated 40,000 Indian nationals in Israel, including caregivers, construction workers, students, professionals, and others.

The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv continues to urge unregistered nationals to come forward through the official online portal. The evacuation efforts will persist as long as required, with the Indian government reiterating its highest priority remains the safety and security of all citizens abroad.
