Mumbai - Rare Book Exhibition by Bombay Natural History Society.

Mumbai - The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), in collaboration with McGill Library & Collections, McGill University (Canada), is organizing a rare book exhibition from December 17 to 22 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai. The exhibition will be open from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM daily, showcasing a remarkable collection of rare and ancient books on natural history, wildlife, and the environment.

The exhibition will feature rare manuscripts, illustrated books, scientific journals, and field guides on scientific discoveries spanning centuries. Some of these materials date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, reflecting the rich heritage of research, study, and conservation of the natural world.

The display will be divided into three sections. The first will include rare first editions of notable naturalists such as Russell Patrick (1801), John Gould (1850-1873), and Nathaniel Wallich (1832). The second section will highlight hand-drawn illustrations from John Gould’s The Birds of James Forbes and Oriental Memoirs (1813), along with other significant works. The third section will present artwork and scientific illustrations depicting plants, animals, and geological formations, offering insights into the art and science of natural history.

Nirmala Barure, BNHS Librarian, has invited nature enthusiasts to visit the exhibition. The exhibition will be open daily from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM from December 17 to 21, and on December 22, it will be available from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
