Mumbai Shock: Gas Cylinder Blast in Kandivali Shop Leaves 7 Injured, 3 in Critical Condition

Mumbai 24 September 2025: In a horrifying incident on Wednesday morning, a fire broke out at a shop in Ram Kisan Mestri Chawl, Kandivali (East), leaving seven people seriously injured after a gas cylinder blast, civic officials confirmed.

The blaze erupted at 9:05 AM in the single-storey shop located beside Akurli Maintenance Chowki on Military Road, spreading quickly to electric wiring, installations, edibles, LPG cylinder, gas stove, and other flammable items.

Civic and fire officials rushed four fire engines and other fire brigade vehicles to the scene, extinguishing the fire by 9:33 AM, preventing further damage.

“The fire erupted due to a gas cylinder blast and was confined to the shop’s electric and LPG installations,” said a fire brigade official.

Injured List & Severity

Shifted to BDBA Hospital (later moved to Kasturba Hospital):

Raksha Joshi, 47 (F) – 85 to 90% burns

Durga Gupta, 30 (F) – 85 to 90% burns

Poonam, 28 (F) – 90% burns

Currently in ESIC Hospital:

Shivani Gandhi, 51 (F) – 70% burns

Nitu Gupta, 31 (F) – 80% burns

Janaki Gupta, 39 (F) – 70% burns

Manaram Kumacat, 55 (M) – 40% burns

The victims are receiving treatment under Dr. Vilas Takke at BDBA Hospital and were later shifted to Kasturba Hospital for advanced care.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the gas cylinder blast, urging residents to exercise caution while handling LPG cylinders and flammable materials.

This shocking incident has once again highlighted safety hazards in local markets and the urgent need for fire safety compliance in small shops.
