Mumbai to Get Its 9th IMAX Theatre: Inox Sky City Mall and IMAX Borivali Set to Open Before March 31, 2025

Mumbai, February 20, 2025 – The city of Mumbai is all set to welcome its 9th IMAX theatre with the opening of Inox Sky City Mall in Borivali East. The highly anticipated IMAX screen, located within the newly constructed mall, is expected to begin operations before the end of the financial year, by March 31, 2025. This will mark another milestone in the growing popularity of the IMAX format across the country.
The new IMAX screen will be housed in the Inox Sky City Mall, which is located near Devipada Metro Station. Once the mall opens its doors to the public, moviegoers in Borivali and surrounding areas will have access to one of the latest entertainment experiences in the city. With a seating capacity of 228, this IMAX screen will be slightly larger than the one at Cinepolis Nexus Seawoods, which seats 227 people. The multiplex itself will feature a total of 10 screens, including Insignia and MX4D auditoriums, bringing the total seating capacity across all screens to 1,372.
A source familiar with the development told Bollywood Hungama, "The IMAX screen is ready, and only a few permissions remain before the official launch. The team is aiming to start operations before March 31, 2025."
Once open, Inox Sky City Mall will add to the list of Mumbai's impressive IMAX venues, which currently include Miraj Wadala, PVR Icon Lower Parel, Inox Maison BKC, Inox R City Ghatkopar, Eros Inox Churchgate, Inox Megaplex Malad, Cinepolis Nexus Seawoods, and Cinepolis Viviana Thane. With this new addition, Mumbai will surpass Delhi-NCR in having the highest number of IMAX theatres in the country.
The residents of Borivali are particularly excited, as the area has long been lacking a large-scale mall. The nearest such mall, Growel’s 101, is nearly 3 kilometers away. The new Inox Sky City Mall will offer convenience for shoppers and movie enthusiasts alike, with direct access from Devipada Metro Station.
In other news, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region recently saw the opening of another multiplex, Cinepolis Aurum, in Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai, on February 7. Meanwhile, the Inox Neelyog theatre, located near Ghatkopar Station, has shut down, sparking rumors that it might be taken over by another multiplex chain.
As Mumbai continues to expand its entertainment options, the addition of the Inox IMAX theatre in Borivali promises to be a major attraction for movie lovers across the city.
