Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace and Airport Receive Hoax Bomb Threat; Police Launch Investigation

Mumbai : In a major security alert on Friday, Mumbai Police received a bomb threat targeting two of the city’s most iconic locations — the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The threat was issued via email and immediately prompted heightened security measures across both sites.
Following receipt of the email, bomb disposal squads and police teams were swiftly deployed to the Taj Mahal Palace and Mumbai Airport. Both premises were thoroughly searched by security personnel, and no suspicious items or activity were found. After detailed checks, authorities declared the threat to be a hoax.
The incident caused temporary concern, but operations at the hotel and the airport continued without any significant disruption. Police officials assured the public that all safety protocols were strictly followed and there was no compromise on passenger or guest security.
In response to the hoax, the Airport Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified sender under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the legal framework which has recently replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the revised criminal justice system.
An official spokesperson from the Mumbai Police stated, “We take all threats seriously. Even though this one turned out to be false, a thorough investigation has been initiated to trace the origin of the email and bring the culprit to justice.”
Security has since been tightened further at key locations across Mumbai, and cybercrime units have been roped in to assist in tracking down the sender of the hoax mail.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, while also warning that hoax threats are a punishable offense under law and will be dealt with sternly.
