Navi Mumbai's Orange Metro Line 12 to Connect Kalyan-Taloja by 2027

Navi Mumbai: The much-anticipated Orange Metro Line 12, stretching 23.756 km from Kalyan to Taloja, is set to transform Navi Mumbai's public transport system by December 31, 2027. Aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity, this new corridor will offer commuters a fast, efficient alternative.
The project is being executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), with SYSTRA SA and DB Engineering & Consultancy GmbH appointed as the general consultants. The detailed design consultancy has been handed to M/s LKT-Enia JV, while Gawar Construction Pvt Ltd. will handle viaduct and station construction, scheduled from April 2024 to September 2026.
A key feature of this project is its two interchanges—one at Kalyan APMC connecting to Metro Line 5, and the other at Taloja, linking to Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1.
An expansive depot-cum-workshop, located at Nilje Gaon near Vadavali Station, will handle major overhauls and repairs. With plans for 12 stabling lines to accommodate 24 six-car trains, this facility will cover over 30 hectares, further boosting operational capacity.
The MMRDA has acquired 57 hectares of government land for the depot and continues to coordinate land acquisition for the non-available stretches in collaboration with local authorities.
This new metro corridor promises to revolutionize travel within the region, paving the way for a brighter, less congested future.
