Neetu Chandra Moves Court Against Honey Singh’s ‘Maniac’ Over Vulgarity

Patna, India: Actor Neetu Chandra has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court against singer Yo Yo Honey Singh and his collaborators over alleged vulgarity in his latest song, Maniac. The petition, which is expected to be heard later this month, names lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi as respondents.
Chandra, known for her work in Bollywood and regional cinema, has accused the song of “portraying overt sexualisation” and depicting women as mere sex objects. She has further alleged that the track misuses Bhojpuri language to “normalise vulgarity”, undermining women's empowerment.
Through her plea, she has sought a direction from the court to amend the lyrics, arguing that such content negatively impacts society. The case has sparked discussions on the portrayal of women in popular music and the use of regional languages in mainstream media.
