No Fanfare, Just Traffic Relief: Southern Arm of T-Shaped Flyover in Malad Opens on Jan 14

Mith Chowky, Malad West: In an effort to avoid political controversy, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to open the southern arm of the T-shaped flyover in Mith Chowky, Malad West, on January 14, as previously announced. The opening will take place without a formal inauguration ceremony.

Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal will inspect the completed flyover during his visit on January 11. The project had sparked political friction when the first phase was inaugurated in October 2024, with both Congress and BJP factions claiming ownership of the project.

The flyover, which is designed to alleviate traffic congestion, comprises two main arms. The eastern arm, already open to traffic, runs from near Girdhar Park Bridge, passes over Malad Creek, and extends above the busy traffic junction. The southern arm is in its final stages of construction, with road signage, traffic beams, and lights being completed within the next few days, preparing for the opening.
