Nurse on duty molested, accused detained, doctors and nurses protest

West Bengal/Birbhum:Doctors and nurses protested demanding security on Sunday morning after a patient was accused of molesting a nurse on duty at Ilambazar Primary Health Center in Birbhum district. The police have detained the accused. Angry doctors and nurses marched in front of the health center on Sunday in protest. They went to Ilambazar police station with posters of 'No Safety, No Duty' and submitted a memorandum there. Amidst the R.G. Kar case, this incident at Ilambazar Health Center has once again raised questions on the safety of female medical workers.
People of about five gram panchayats depend on the 30-bed Ilambazar Primary Health Center in Birbhum. As per information, a person suffering from fever was admitted to the health center. The nurse had gone to give injection to the patient at night. Allegedly, the patient molested her at that time. The accused patient was shifted to Bolpur Mahakama Hospital at night. On information, the police of Ilambazar police station reached the health center. Later during treatment, the police arrested the patient. At present, he is admitted in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital under police surveillance.
Health worker Jalpana Sarkar said, "We work all night. We have provided services even during the time of Covid. We have no security. Two policemen can be kept in the health center. How can we work like this? One of our nurses was molested. We are protesting against this today. If we are not given security, we will not be able to perform our duty." Ilambazar BMOH Subirkumar Roychoudhary supported this protest of health Workers.
