Over 150 Injured in Fireworks Accident at Kerala Temple Festival

Kasaragod, Kerala : A devastating fireworks accident during the Moolamkuzhi Chamundi Theyyam festival near Veerarkavu Temple in Kasaragod left over 150 people injured late Monday night, with eight individuals in critical condition.

According to reports from local authorities, the incident occurred around midnight when a misfired cracker struck a storage facility containing explosives. The explosion ignited a large fire, sending shockwaves through the crowd gathered to celebrate the festival. Eyewitnesses reported chaos as bystanders, including women and children, were caught in the ensuing blaze.

The injured were swiftly transported to various hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Mangaluru. The Kanhangad district hospital received 33 patients, while 40 were admitted to Sanjeevani Hospital. Additional casualties were reported at Aishal Hospital in Kanhangad, Arimala Hospital, Nileshwar Taluk Hospital, and Aster MIMS Hospital in Kannur. Reports indicate that five individuals at Kanhangad hospital are in critical condition, raising concerns about the severity of their injuries.
