Tokyo : A man has been arrested for allegedly throwing a petrol bomb at the headquarters of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in Japan's capital, Tokyo, on Saturday morning. This information was reported by Japan Today, citing the public broadcaster NHK.
According to Japan Today, the individual collided his car with a riot police vehicle, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident. The suspect attempted to drive his car onto the grounds of the Prime Minister's office but was unsuccessful due to a barrier. He then tried to throw a smoke bomb but was apprehended by police officers present at the scene.
Party Secretary-General Hiroshi Moriyama stated, "The motives of the perpetrator are unknown, but freedom of expression should not be silenced by violence." Reports indicate that the incident occurred shortly before 6 AM. According to the Asahi Shimbun daily and other media outlets, multiple plastic tanks were found in the suspect's car.
