PM Modi Pays Tribute to Bhagwan Mahavir, Recalls Message of Non-Violence, Truth and Compassion

New Delhi, April 10: On the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th and last Tirthankar of the Jain religion, celebrating his timeless teachings of non-violence, truth, and compassion.

In a message shared on Thursday, the Prime Minister said that Bhagwan Mahavir’s ideals continue to inspire and guide millions of people across the world. He emphasized that these values are more relevant than ever in today’s world and affirmed the government's commitment to upholding Mahavir’s vision for a harmonious and compassionate society.

“We all bow to Bhagwan Mahavir, who always emphasised on non-violence, truth and compassion. His ideals give strength to countless people all around the world,” said PM Modi.

Highlighting the government's recognition of ancient Indian languages, Modi noted that Prakrit, a language closely associated with Jain scriptures and teachings, was conferred the status of a classical language last year, a move widely appreciated by scholars and the Jain community alike.

The Prime Minister also lauded the Jain community for their dedication in preserving and spreading Bhagwan Mahavir's message. “Inspired by Bhagwan Mahavir, the Jain community has excelled in different walks of life and made significant contributions to societal well-being,” he added.

Mahavir Jayanti, one of the most important festivals for Jains, marks the birth of Bhagwan Mahavir, a spiritual teacher and reformer who preached the path of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), and Aparigraha (non-possessiveness). Celebrations across the country included processions, prayers, and charitable activities in keeping with his principles.
