PM Modi Praises Film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ on Godhra Train Incident: ‘Truth is Coming Out’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the film The Sabarmati Report, which is based on the tragic Godhra train burning incident that occurred on February 27, 2002. The film, directed by Dheeraj Sarna, delves into the horrific event where 59 Hindu pilgrims, returning from Ayodhya, were burned alive in the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in Gujarat. The incident sparked widespread riots in the state.
In his response to an X (formerly Twitter) user who tagged him with a trailer of the film, the Prime Minister expressed his support, saying, "Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out."
The film, produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, features prominent actors Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra. It aims to present a detailed narrative of the events surrounding the Godhra tragedy, which remains a deeply controversial and politically charged topic.
Released on Friday, The Sabarmati Report has already started generating discussions, with many applauding its attempt to bring out an often-debated perspective of the incident. The film's portrayal of the tragedy and its aftermath adds to the ongoing discourse on the 2002 Gujarat riots, which continue to be a sensitive issue in Indian politics and society.
Prime Minister Modi’s endorsement of the film reflects his support for a narrative he believes reveals the "truth" about the Godhra incident, which has been the subject of much controversy and legal scrutiny over the years.
