Rajkummar Rao Improvised Climax Scene of Stree, Imitated Shah Rukh Khan: ‘Being His Fan, First Thing That Comes…’

Mumbai,In a recent appearance on Raj Shamani's podcast, actor Rajkummar Rao shared intriguing insights into the making of the climax scene from his 2018 film Stree. Rao revealed that he drew inspiration from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and incorporated a touch of Khan's signature style into the scene.
The climax of Stree features Rao's character being urged by Shraddha Kapoor's character to confront Stree, a vengeful ghost, by looking into her eyes with genuine affection. Rao admitted that his improvisation in this pivotal moment was influenced by his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan. He said, "Being his fan, the first thing that comes to mind is to channel his iconic style."
Rao expressed his enthusiasm for improvisation, noting that it adds an element of fun to his performances. "I love improvising on set. It's a lot of fun for me, and Amar (Kaushik) gives me that freedom," he shared. Rao elaborated on his approach to improvisation, explaining that a well-crafted script provides the foundation for effective comedic improvisation. He emphasized, "Comedy on paper has to be good, that's how you can play. That's why I tell my writer friends, 'Give me a playground to play at least'. If I don't have a playground, I won't be able to do it."
In Stree, Rao's character faces the supernatural entity Stree, who haunts the men of Chanderi after being wronged in her mortal life. She would whisper their names from behind, and if they turned around, they would disappear.
This revelation adds a fascinating layer to the film's climax, highlighting Rao's creative process and his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan’s impactful style.
