Thane ACB Nabs Police Sub-Inspector for ₹70,000 Bribe in Narcotics Case

Palghar, Maharashtra, April 28 — In a major crackdown on corruption within the police force, the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a 56-year-old Police Sub-Inspector posted at Naya Nagar Police Station for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 to facilitate bail in a narcotics case.
The arrested officer, Sub-Inspector Ramnath Tandalkar, had allegedly demanded the bribe from the brother of an accused arrested for the sale of MD (Mephedrone) drugs. According to ACB officials, Tandalkar had promised to prepare a favorable report to aid in securing the accused’s release on bail in exchange for the payment.
After the complainant approached the Thane ACB, a trap was laid at the Naya Nagar Police Station on Friday night. During the operation, Tandalkar was caught red-handed while accepting ₹50,000 — a part of the total demanded amount of ₹70,000.
The successful operation was conducted under the supervision of Shivraj Patil, Superintendent of Police, Thane ACB, with assistance from Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Dinkar N.
Tandalkar has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is underway.
The arrest has sparked renewed concerns over corruption within the police force, especially in sensitive cases related to drug trafficking. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken to maintain transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
