Tragic Crash on Sion-Panvel Highway Claims Life of Sleeping Autorickshaw Driver

Juinagar,Navi Mumbai: In a tragic accident on early Wednesday morning, an autorickshaw driver lost his life after a Honda Civic crashed into his vehicle while he was sleeping inside. The incident took place near Juinagar railway station on the Mumbai lane of the Sion-Panvel highway. The driver, Ghanshyam Jaiswal, was parked on the roadside, exhausted from a long night of ferrying passengers. He was killed instantly in the collision, which also damaged another autorickshaw nearby.

The accused driver, identified as Vishnu Rathod, a 27-year-old civil engineer from Mankhurd, lost control of his car and rammed into Jaiswal's parked vehicle, along with a second autorickshaw owned by Rajendra Vankalas. Fortunately, Vankalas and his son were unharmed, as they had stepped away to a nearby tea stall at the time of the crash.

The Nerul police arrested Rathod and booked him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act, including charges of causing death by negligence, rash driving, and endangering the safety of others. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured further legal action.
