Tragic Hit-and-Run in Sewri: Labourer Dies as Speeding Car Flees the Scene; Police on Hunt for Culprit

Mumbai: A tragic hit-and-run accident occurred in Mumbai’s Sewri area on Wednesday when a speeding vehicle struck a 39-year-old labourer and fled the scene. The victim’s brother rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

The police have registered a case and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle involved, according to news agency IANS. Further details are awaited.

This incident comes just a day after an Army soldier, Ejaz Ahmed Bhat (30), was hit by a speeding car near the CSMT railway station on Tuesday. The driver fled the scene, and a case has been registered at Azad Maidan Police Station.

In a similar case last week, a high-speed motorcycle lost control and crashed into a railing on the Eastern Freeway near Sewri, resulting in one death and serious injuries to another. The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Nomaan Khan, while the injured rider was Arbaaz Mohammad Ali Khan (32).

The Sewri police have registered a case against Arbaaz under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code for reckless and negligent driving.

Speeding Likely Led to Horrific Crash:
Arbaaz was riding at an excessively high speed on the southbound freeway when he lost control, veering into the left-side railing. The impact proved fatal for Nomaan, who was riding pillion. Arbaaz sustained serious injuries to his head and arms and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Both men were residents of Swagat Society in Ghatkopar. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.
