Vasai, March 22, 2025 – The Crime Branch Unit 2 of Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) has successfully apprehended a 40-year-old accused, Niranjankumar alias Ranjan alias Akshay Vijay Shukla, in connection with a 2008 murder case that was registered in Vasai. The accused, who was arrested in Bengaluru, confessed during interrogation to a horrifying crime that occurred nearly two decades ago – the brutal murder of four of his own family members in West Bengal in 2002.
Shukla, originally from West Bengal, revealed the chilling details of his past during questioning by police officers. According to his confession, the accused's first violent act took place in Haldia, West Bengal, where his father was stationed as a CISF personnel. After the death of Shukla's mother, his father remarried, and Shukla alleged that his stepmother mistreated him. In a shocking turn of events, on February 26, 2002, Shukla killed his stepmother, two minor step-sisters aged 7 and 6 years, and his 2-year-old step-brother in their CISF quarters. The tragedy was swept under the rug for years as Shukla fled the scene and evaded capture.
Following the gruesome killings in West Bengal, Shukla went into hiding, moving to Karnataka and later settling in Maharashtra. In Vasai, he established a paint business and made friends, including one Manoj Saha, with whom he worked. Shukla maintained a low profile for years, blending into the local community.
However, after years of evading the law, Shukla's past caught up with him. The MBVV Crime Branch Unit 2, through extensive investigation, tracked him down to Bengaluru. Upon arrest, Shukla admitted to the horrific murders he had committed years earlier and provided the police with a detailed account of the killings.
The arrest of Niranjankumar Shukla brings closure to the long-unsolved murder case in Vasai and sheds light on a disturbing family tragedy that had remained a secret for years. Authorities are now working to gather more evidence related to both the 2002 and 2008 crimes, as they continue their investigation into Shukla’s criminal activities.
Shukla is expected to be brought to Vasai for further interrogation and to face legal proceedings in the case.
