Trial Run of Mumbai Metro Line 9 Begins: CM Devendra Fadnavis Flags Off Phase 1 from Kashigaon to Dahisar East

Mumbai, May 14 – In a significant step towards enhancing urban connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday flagged off the trial run of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 9, connecting Kashigaon to Dahisar East.

The event, held amid much anticipation, marked a crucial milestone in the expansion of the city's metro network. Metro Line 9 is an extension of the existing Red Line (Metro Line 7) and is expected to offer major relief to daily commuters by improving north-south connectivity, especially for residents of Mira-Bhayandar and nearby suburban areas.

Sharing his excitement on the occasion, CM Fadnavis took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “It is a matter of great pleasure that the technical test of Metro Route-9, Phase-1, Kashigaon to Dahisar (East) has started today. After its successful test, this facility will be open to the general public very soon. With this metro line, commuters from Mumbai and Thane will enjoy seamless connectivity.”

The trial run was carried out under the supervision of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). CM Fadnavis was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and other senior officials during a personal inspection of the route prior to the commencement of the trial.

Designed with the aim of providing a fast, safe, and eco-friendly mode of transport, Line 9 will significantly cut travel time for thousands of daily commuters. Once operational, it is expected to serve as a vital link between the densely populated suburban regions and the rest of Mumbai.

Officials from the MMRDA confirmed that the technical trial is a critical phase in the process of launching commercial operations, which are expected to begin soon after the successful completion of tests.

The trial run is part of the Maharashtra government’s broader commitment to modernizing public transport infrastructure and promoting sustainable urban mobility. With Mumbai’s metro network rapidly expanding, initiatives like Line 9 are poised to redefine commuting for the city’s growing population.
