Vikrant Massey’s ‘The Sabarmati Report’ Opens with ₹1.15 Crore, Beats ‘12th Fail’ Opening

Mumbai : Vikrant Massey's latest film, The Sabarmati Report, which delves into the 2002 Godhra train-burning incident, opened to a modest box office collection of ₹1.15 crore on its first day, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.com. Despite the low opening, the film managed to surpass the opening day collection of 12th Fail, Massey’s 2023 sleeper hit, which earned ₹1.1 crore.

The film, directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures, features a star cast including Raashi Khanna and Ridhi Dogra. The Sabarmati Report garnered mixed reviews, with critics praising the final scene where Massey's character gives a voice to the 59 victims of the Godhra incident. However, the second half of the film was criticized for a repetitive plot.

With an overall occupancy rate of just 16.74%, the film now faces tough competition from other major releases, including the Hollywood epic Gladiator 2 and Suriya’s action film Kanguva. It remains to be seen whether The Sabarmati Report will build momentum through word of mouth like 12th Fail did.

In a press interaction, Vikrant Massey revealed he had received death threats for his role in the film but stated that he and the team were handling the situation.

The film’s performance over the coming days will determine its long-term success at the box office.
