Bodies of Woman, 2 Children Found in Manipur Amid Hostage Crisis

In a grim development from Manipur, the bodies of a woman and two children were discovered and brought to a morgue at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam on Friday, amid ongoing tensions in the region. The victims were among the hostages taken by suspected Kuki militants from Jiribam’s Bokobera neighborhood on Monday, when the militants clashed with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Sources at the morgue confirmed that the bodies, which had partially decomposed, were of two children and one adult woman. Initial examinations indicated the bodies were those of adults and children, though identities have not yet been established. The deceased are believed to be from the Meitei community.

The kidnapping occurred while another group of militants was engaged in a gunfight with security forces. According to local sources, the victims were abducted and taken by boat. Laisharam Herojit, whose family members were among those abducted, told authorities he last spoke with his wife during the chaos but lost contact soon after.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing conflict, ten suspected militants were killed in the clash with the CRPF, which also led to the recovery of assault rifles and a rocket launcher from the encounter site. Tensions remain high in the region, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
