World’s Oldest Woman, Tomiko Itooka, Passes Away at 116

Tokyo, Japan: Tomiko Itooka, officially recognized as the world’s oldest living person, has passed away at the remarkable age of 116. Her death marks the end of an extraordinary life that spanned three centuries and countless historical milestones.

Born on January 1, 1909, in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture, Itooka lived through two world wars, witnessed the evolution of technology, and saw society transform in ways unimaginable during her early years. She attributed her long life to a healthy diet, regular exercise, and maintaining a positive outlook on life.

Itooka was celebrated as a national treasure in Japan, a country known for its high life expectancy. She often spoke about the importance of family, gratitude, and perseverance, inspiring millions with her wisdom and resilience.

In recent years, Itooka resided in a care facility where she received round-the-clock support. Despite her advanced age, she remained mentally sharp and enjoyed spending time with family, reading, and occasionally indulging in her favorite treat—mochi.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed condolences, stating, “Tomiko Itooka’s life was a testament to the strength and spirit of Japan’s people. Her legacy will continue to inspire us all.” Her passing leaves Kane Tanaka, 115, also from Japan, as the potential new holder of the title of the world’s oldest person, pending official confirmation.
