58-Year-Old Thane Resident Arrested for Running Sex Racket From His Flat in Vartak Nagar

Thane, February 15, 2025 – A 58-year-old man from Thane was arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of the Thane police for allegedly operating a sex racket from his flat in a housing complex in Vartak Nagar. The police action was based on a tip-off received on February 12, leading to a raid that rescued a woman from the premises.

The arrested individual, identified as Dattaram Sawant, was operating the illegal activity from his flat in the Vartak Nagar area. Following the raid, the police registered a case against Sawant under Section 143(1) (trafficking of person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 (PITA).

Senior Inspector Chetna Chowdhari, who is overseeing the investigation, confirmed that the woman was rescued during the operation. The police have also assured that further inquiries are being conducted to identify and arrest any other individuals involved in the racket.

The police action is part of ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and illegal activities in the region. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activities to help prevent further exploitation and criminal operations.
