Aaditya Thackeray Demands EOW Probe Over Poor Mumbai Concrete Road Work

Mumbai: The poor quality and slow progress of Mumbai’s concrete road work became a hot topic in the Maharashtra Assembly on Monday, with Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray demanding an Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) probe into the project.
During the session, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was present, but he left before addressing the MLAs, returning only in the last 10 minutes. Speaker Rahul Narwekar continued the meeting in his absence.
Key Concerns Raised:
-
Only 23% of Phase 1 of the project has been completed, while Phase 2 lags at 0.5% progress.
-
Complaints came from all parties, including minister Ashish Shelar, who flagged issues in his constituency.
-
MLAs suggested that smaller roads (less than 15m wide) should be resurfaced with asphalt instead of concrete.
Shinde assured that the work will be completed by May 31, and a follow-up meeting is set for April 25 to track progress and address concerns.
