Bihar’s Dire Straits: Prashant Kishor’s Call to Action for Change

Jan Suraaj leader and renowned poll strategist Prashant Kishor has stirred debate by describing Bihar as a "literally failed state" during a virtual interaction with the Bihari diaspora in the United States. Launching the US chapter of his party, Kishor painted a grim picture of the state’s challenges, likening Bihar’s struggles to those of conflict-ridden regions like Sudan.

"Bihar is in deep s***," Kishor remarked, highlighting issues such as overpopulation and societal hopelessness as roadblocks to progress. He criticised the survival-first mindset of Biharis, which he said limits aspirations for development. Despite Jan Suraaj's lacklustre performance in recent bypolls, where the party failed to win a single seat, Kishor confidently declared that they would triumph in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

His vision for Bihar includes prioritising education reform and revoking the statewide alcohol ban to boost revenue. Kishor urged the Bihari diaspora to move beyond discussions and actively contribute to the state's development.
"Achieving middle-income status by 2030 is challenging but possible," he asserted, underscoring his optimism despite the monumental task ahead.

Kishor’s candid remarks have sparked both controversy and reflection, reigniting conversations about Bihar's future. Whether his vision will resonate with voters remains to be seen.
