Kolkata Court to Deliver Verdict in RG Kar Murder Case: Will Justice Be Served?

Kolkata: After 162 tense days, the long-awaited judgment in the brutal RG Kar rape-murder case is expected today. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has confidently presented its case, pinning the crime on the prime accused, Sanjay Roy.
The tragic incident occurred on August 9 when an on-duty PGT intern was horrifically raped and murdered on the premises of RG Kar Hospital. Following a high court directive, the CBI took over the case from Kolkata Police on August 13, leading a meticulous investigation that involved over 120 witnesses and extensive forensic evidence.
Throughout the 66-day in-camera trial, CBI relied heavily on biological evidence, including DNA samples, toxicology reports, and saliva swabs, which identified Roy as the perpetrator. Five blunt force injuries found on his body corroborated claims of a struggle by the victim. A clump of hair recovered from the crime scene was also found to belong to Roy, and crucially, his missing Bluetooth device, which was spotted in CCTV footage, was recovered from the location and matched to his phone.
Today, Sessions Court Judge Anirban Das is set to deliver the verdict on this chilling crime that shocked the city, and with the CBI presenting such strong evidence, many hope for swift justice for the victim.
