Saira Banu Refutes Divorce Rumors, Calls AR Rahman “The Best Man in the World

AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu, after 29 years of marriage, have announced their separation. On the same day, Rahman’s bassist Mohini Dey also revealed her divorce, which sparked rumors linking the two events. In response, Rahman sent a legal notice demanding the removal of defamatory content about his divorce.

Breaking her silence, Saira Banu clarified the reasons behind the split in a voice note, stating that she moved to Mumbai for health reasons, which made it difficult for her to stay in Chennai given Rahman’s busy schedule. She defended Rahman, calling him "the best man in the world" and urged the media, particularly Tamil YouTubers, to stop spreading false allegations. "I trust him with my life, and that’s how much he does too," she said, requesting privacy and respect for their family.

Saira also addressed misconceptions about alimony in India. Her lawyer, Vandana Shah, explained that the idea of receiving 50% alimony is a myth, with the actual outcome depending on various legal factors.

Meanwhile, Rahman expressed his heartbreak on social media, acknowledging the end of a chapter in their lives. He thanked their friends for respecting their privacy during this difficult time. The couple has three children: AR Ameen, Khatija Rahman, and Raheema Rahman.
