Malad Police Uncover Mobile Theft Racket, Two Arrested

Mumbai: The Malad Police have successfully busted a mobile theft racket with the arrest of two individuals involved in stealing and trafficking stolen mobile phones. Mohammed Faheed Siraj Shaikh (26), a thief known for sneaking into houses through open doors, was apprehended after he stole three mobile phones from a house in Malad a few weeks ago. Shaikh sold the stolen phones to Imtiyaz Usman Memon (46), a dealer in second-hand mobile phones, who was also arrested following a police investigation.

The police traced Shaikh's whereabouts through CCTV footage and, during interrogation, he confessed to the theft and his connection with Memon. A search of Memon's residence led to the recovery of 23 high-value mobile phones. Memon, who has a criminal history, reportedly purchased stolen phones from Shaikh and other thieves at discounted prices, reselling them to Bengali individuals and workers in Malad's slum areas.

Memon has been involved in this illegal trade for years, and his past criminal record includes over 10 cases, including a murder charge, and a 10-year prison sentence. Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigations are ongoing.

The police are continuing to investigate the racket, which has caused significant concern in the region due to the involvement of organized theft and resale of stolen electronics.
