Blind Music Teacher and Minor Son Booked for Assaulting Policeman in Chembur

Mumbai, Chembur: A blind musician and his 16-year-old son have been booked by the Chembur police for allegedly assaulting an on-duty policeman and reckless driving. The incident unfolded after a sedan, driven by the minor without a license, struck two patrolling constables at Chembur Gymkhana, causing minor injuries.

The accused, Kiran Kamath (49), a respected music teacher holding a ‘Sangeet Visharad’ degree, reportedly became aggressive when summoned to the hospital following the incident. According to police reports, Kamath physically assaulted Constable Vijay Sonawane, who had sustained injuries, while his son allegedly joined in, shoving the officer to the ground and tearing his uniform.

Investigations revealed that the sedan is registered in the name of Kamath’s wife. Charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Motor Vehicles Act include assault on a public servant, negligence endangering safety, and unlicensed driving. Kamath has been issued a notice directing him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, though no arrests have been made yet.

The incident has sparked debate in the local community, with legal experts condemning the actions as reckless and endangering public safety.
