BMC Engineer Mardar Tari Arrested in Rs 75 Lakh Bribery Case After Five Months on the Run

Mumbai, India: In a major breakthrough, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) executive engineer Mardar Tari was arrested on Thursday after evading capture for five months. Tari is at the center of a high-profile corruption case where two touts were earlier arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 75 lakh from a developer. The bribe was allegedly paid in exchange for BMC approvals and clearances.
Tari’s arrest came after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him, following the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea by the High Court earlier this month. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Tari when he appeared in court to face the non-bailable warrant hearing.
The charges against Tari include bribery, criminal conspiracy, abuse of power, and conspiracy to defraud the government under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He is accused of facilitating the bribe through intermediaries, abusing his position as an executive engineer to illegally secure approvals for the developer.
This arrest is a significant victory for the ACB in its ongoing battle against corruption within the municipal body, sending a strong message that no one is above the law.
