BMC Takes Action Against Illegal Constructions in Malvani, Malad West

Mumbai : In a significant move to curb illegal constructions, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) successfully demolished several unauthorised structures in the Malvani area of Malad West on Saturday. The demolition drive was part of the civic body's ongoing efforts to remove encroachments and ensure urban planning adherence in the city.

The operation, led by Kundan Valvi, Assistant Commissioner of P North, along with Designated Officer Sagar Rane and Nitin Chaudhari, saw the demolition of around five illegal structures, including both commercial and residential buildings, in the Rathodi area. The demolitions involved a ground-plus-two, five commercial structures, covering a total of approximately 3,000 square feet, and a ground-plus-one, four residential buildings, spanning about 1,200 square feet.

To facilitate the swift execution of the demolition, the BMC deployed two JCB machines along with a dedicated team of 20 personnel. The demolition team efficiently dismantled these structures, which had been constructed without proper authorization.

This move comes as part of the BMC’s ongoing crackdown on unauthorised constructions across the city. Just a week prior, a similar demolition drive was carried out on Kakkayya Shetty Road in Bhandup West, where 75 illegal structures were demolished, including 62 homes and 13 shops that had encroached on the road. The demolition led to the expansion of the road, which previously measured only 3 meters wide, to a more accessible 18.30 meters.

The BMC's recent actions highlight its continued commitment to maintaining order in Mumbai's urban development and promoting compliance with building regulations. The civic body has reiterated its stance on taking stringent actions against illegal constructions to ensure safety and prevent the encroachment of public spaces.
