Centre Re-implements GRAP Stage 3 Curbs in Delhi-NCR Amid Rising Air Pollution

New Delhi: The Centre’s panel on air quality in Delhi-NCR has re-imposed Stage 3 restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) due to a sharp rise in air pollution levels, triggered by unfavourable meteorological conditions. The decision was made on Thursday after Delhi's air quality worsened significantly, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) rising to 357 at 4 pm, up from 297 on Wednesday.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) ordered immediate implementation of the Stage 3 curbs to mitigate further deterioration. The increase in pollution was attributed to "calm winds and foggy conditions," which hindered the dispersion of pollutants.

Under Stage 3, several measures are being enforced, including a ban on non-essential construction work and a shift to hybrid classes for schools up to grade V. Parents and students are encouraged to opt for online education wherever possible. Additionally, the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles (4-wheelers) has been restricted in Delhi and surrounding NCR districts. However, exemptions are made for persons with disabilities.

Authorities in Delhi-NCR are closely monitoring the situation, and further action will be taken if pollution levels continue to rise.
