Chembur’s Siddharth Colony Residents Demand Justice, Protest Against Adani Electricity

Siddharth Colony, Chembur East, Mumbai: Residents of Siddharth Colony, Chembur East, staged a protest at Ambedkar Garden on Sunday, demanding the waiver of interest on pending electricity bill dues. Holding placards and raising slogans, the protestors called for the removal of Adani Electricity as their local power supplier, alleging inflated bills aimed at recovering dues.
The dispute, spanning two decades, has intensified as unpaid bills in the colony of 3,600 homes have accumulated to nearly ₹120 crore, inclusive of charges approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).
Residents alleged that Adani staff fail to record meter readings, leading to unauthentic billing. This issue dates back to the transition from Reliance Energy to Adani Electricity in 2018-19.
Police from the Chembur station were deployed at the protest site to maintain law and order. When contacted, Adani Electricity’s communication department stated they would comment after gathering updates on the protest.
