Cop, Prison Officer Booked for Accepting Bribe in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: A case has been registered against a senior prison officer and a policeman for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from an inmate’s brother at Taloja Jail. The accused have been identified as Nivrutti Maneji Kannewad, a senior officer at Taloja Jail, and constable Rahul Parmeshwar Garad.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) acted on a complaint alleging that the inmate faced harassment by the two officers, which intensified during court proceedings. The inmate reportedly informed his brother during a meeting that a bribe of Rs 10,000 was demanded by the duo to stop the mistreatment.

Following an investigation, the ACB confirmed the complaint and found that the officials accepted the bribe on Saturday. A case has been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.
