Dadar’s Platform 9 Set for Major Expansion in 2024

Dadar, Mumbai: The bustling Dadar Central Railway station is undergoing a crucial transformation to address overcrowding and improve commuter experience. Platform 9 and 9A are set to become wider in the New Year, thanks to the relocation of the existing Government Railway Police (GRP) station to a new multi-storey building near the Swaminarayan Mandir.

Police Station Relocation Paves Way for Wider Platforms and Elevated Deck

The current police station, located on platform 9A, occupies significant space and restricts passenger movement. The new GRP facility, which overlooks the main road and station circle, is nearing completion and will be operational within weeks.

Once relocated, the vacated area will enable platform 9 and 9A to be widened seamlessly, similar to recent upgrades at Thane station. The expansion includes clearing space by removing the garden patch, toilet block, and dumped debris. Additionally, an elevated deck will be constructed over platform 9, further decongesting the station and enhancing commuter convenience.

These upgrades follow a master plan drafted after concerns about overcrowding were raised by commuters and highlighted in media reports. With platform 8 already widened and double discharge operations at platform 9A in place, these developments mark a significant step toward transforming Dadar into a more efficient and passenger-friendly hub.
