GBS Cases in Maharashtra Rise to 205, First Death Reported in Mumbai

Mumbai,Maharashtra: The tally of suspected and confirmed Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Maharashtra has climbed to 205, with two new cases detected, health officials reported. Of these, 177 cases have been confirmed, and around 20 patients remain on ventilator support. The death toll remains at eight.

Pune has reported the highest number of cases in the state. Mumbai recorded its first GBS-related death this year, as a 53-year-old man from Wadala succumbed to the illness at B L Nair Hospital. The patient, who had visited Pune 16 days before his admission, was placed on ventilator support due to respiratory distress before passing away.

Despite the rising numbers, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) health officials urged citizens not to panic, emphasizing that GBS cases are reported throughout the year. Doctors advise that anyone experiencing weakness should seek immediate medical attention.
