Thane: Water Supply Disruption in Diva and TMC’s Push for Eco-Friendly Funding

Thane: Residents of Diva City will face an eight-hour water supply shutdown on February 14, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, due to urgent repairs on a 500-mm main water pipeline near the Usargar Railway Culvert. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) confirmed that the repair aims to address low-pressure issues affecting areas under Ward No. 27 and 28, including Aagsan, Betewade, Ganesh Nagar, Bedekar Nagar, Mhasoba Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Mumbra Devi Colony, Sabe Gaon, and Diva West. Even after restoration, residents may experience low water pressure for the next one to two days and are advised to store water in advance.

Meanwhile, TMC is seeking international funding for its eco-friendly infrastructure projects. Discussions with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are underway to finance projects such as a ₹500 crore water recycling plant that will convert 100 MLD of sewage water into high-purity reusable water. Additionally, TMC is exploring funding options for water supply schemes, sewage expansion, solid waste management, and lake conservation.

A meeting at TMC’s Urban Research Centre, chaired by Commissioner Saurabh Rao, saw participation from IFC representatives, senior city engineers, and officials from Maharashtra’s MITRA initiative. IFC has agreed to assess the feasibility of these projects and suggest funding alternatives.
