Vasai (West), January 25: Two weeks after the daring jewellery heist in Vasai, police have arrested one accused, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining culprits involved in the Rs 80-lakh robbery.
On the night of January 10, two men on a motorcycle, their faces concealed by helmets, hoodies, and masks, stormed into a jewellery shop in Vasai (West). They assaulted the elderly shop owner, held him at gunpoint, and fled with jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh.
The police investigation has made some headway, with sources revealing that the accused are believed to be hiding near Chulna village, in close proximity to the crime scene. According to sources at the Manikpur Police Station, the heist appears to have been carried out by a group of four to five individuals. While one person has been arrested, the authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the remaining suspects.
"Six police teams have been deployed in Vasai, and the crime branch is also conducting a parallel investigation," said an officer involved in the case. The police have stated that they are in the process of recovering the stolen jewellery, with teams working tirelessly to track down the suspects.
The investigation has revealed that the accused had been hiding near Chulna village and had not moved far from the area where the crime was committed. Police believe that the suspects may still be in the vicinity, and efforts are focused on narrowing down their location.
"Both the accused were last seen near a park in Sun City, Vasai. Despite efforts to track their movements, they remain elusive, but we are confident that the remaining culprits will soon be apprehended," the officer added.
